WAGES DEMANDS IN BRITAIN* By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. LONDON, Aug. 19. A crisis is threatened in tne merchant service. Officers, engineers, stokers, and seamen urge increased wages, and assert that the shipowners persistently delayed consideration of their claims. Engineers demand an immediate 50 per cent, increase; officers demand 40 per cent; and tho seamen and firemen have submitted a graded scale of 30 to 40 per cent increase. , It is reported the shipowners ara aghast at the demands.—Aus.-N.Z.
