KING COUNTRY PROGRESS.

NEW COUNTY ASKED FOR. The great increase in population in tho King Country in a short period has forcibly brought the urgent necessity of a re-adjustment of-county council boundaries, and tho formation of a new county. This view was placed before Sir Win. Fraser (who is acting for the Hon. Air. Anderson during his illness) by a deputation representing the Awakino, Waitomo, Kawhia, China, Waipa, and Raglan counties. Tfye south-West Taupo settlers asked for ’a new county to be formed, which would be known as the Taumarunui County. Air. AV. T. Jennings, AI.P., introduced the deputation, and speakers stated that at a conference held recently in the King Country an amicable settlement of boundaries was agreed upon. It was asked that a commission be set up to hear evidence and to report to the Government.

After Messrs. Hockley, Young, Bollard, and N. W. Smith had supported the views of tho representatives of the counties and road boards, Sir William Fraser stated that he was familiar with the request, as it had been brought bafore him on various occasions. He could not promise the deputation anything definite, but would place the matter before the Hon. Mr. Anderson when he returned to his duties.
