STAR DEFEAT TUKAPA. The match between tho Star and Tukapa junior fifteens for tho Carbine Shield, which was played, at the Reel cation Ground on Saturday afternoon,resulted in a. win for Star by 11 points to 3. Star attacked and from a hign kick tho ball went over tho blue lino and Fahvasser, who had followed up fast, touched down within a couple of minutes of tho commencement of play. There was no further- score during tho first spell, and on changing cuds Tukapa pressed hard from the outset and after a few minutes’ play tho scores were equalised by Alorton placing a goal from a penalty. In tho last quarter-of-au-liour however, Star made things very lively and put on another 8 points (two tries, one being converted), and the final score was Star 11, Tukapa 3. Mr. I'. Although now* well beaten Taranaki were by no moans dispirited and they' kept up a strong pressure until the Wellington forwards gained the upper hand, but the game closed without there being any further score. / The final score was; Wellington 16; Taranaki 5. MANAWATU DEFEAT WANGANUI. PALMERSTON N., August 22. A representative match, Wanganui and Manawatu, was played hero on Saturday and resulted in a . win for Manawatu by 12 points to 8. The game opened rather dull, hut. the second spell produced good football from both sides. The homo forwards showed to advantage, and the passing of the visiting backs demonstrated their superiority in this department. The scores at half-time were Manawatu G, Wanganui, nil, and the dual scores were 12 to S in favour; of Manawatu., SOUTH ISLAND COUNTRY TEAM. ROTORUA, August 22. At Rugby.'Bay of Plenty defeated the South Island country team by 22 points to'ls. The first spell was.fairly even, the score at the end'being Bay of Plenty 15, Sputh Island 12. Thereafter the visitors only scored a try, while Bay of Plenty added eight points, their score being six- trios (two converted) and a penalty goal, the Southerners getting five tries.
