The-officers of the Public Works Do-: partment have been authorised by Cabinet to negotiate with thy Lngtioh Electric Co. for the electrificat on o I the Otira tunnel. For this work two tenders were received and tho«e. have been fully considered by the P iblio Works ; Tenders Board and afterwards by Cabinet. If negotiations with tbo English company prove satisfactory Win understood that the tender will b* ’accopved. Tenders from all parties were in Uw neighbourhood of £3OO,OCK . The successful tenderer will be required to ha*e the machinery installed.so tint the tunnel will not be delayed and the whole system will be in working order within 18 months.
