WAITARA.

PROM oou own correspondent. August 23. —A, meeting of the executive of the North Taranaki Patriotic League was held on Saturday evening, when several recommendations were mads to the Stratford Association for substantial grants to permanently disabled soldiers. A deputation waited on Mr. A. Arms last week to ask him to consent to his nomination for a seat on the directorate of the Waitara Road Daily Factory. The matter will have Mr. Arms’ consideration. It is surprising the uses to which aviation is being put. I noticed in the Herald on Saturday that a funeral forte,go took a flight. This almost rivals Elijah’s ascent in a chariot of ■fire. A good many farmers are willing to risk growing a few acres of wheat this season, but their is unfortunately a scarcity of seed. The cold drying winds of last 'week have played havoc with young grass paddocks.
