FRENCH IN SYRIA.

The French, not having received a reply to their ultimatum, have begun a general advance in' the eastern zone of Syria. It is understood that Feisal has appealed to the League of Nations to intervene. —Times, UNDER TURKISH INFLUENCE. PROVOCATIVE SYRIAN POLICY. __l PARIS, July 20. The Temps states' that France at various times since December last has tried to secure the friendly co-operation of the Syrian authorities,/ but Feisal and his colleagues, yielding to the incitement of Turkish Nationalists, deliberately started a hostile policy. They broke off .financial relations with the French zone, tried to prevent food reaching the French troops, repeatedly attacked French posts, and replaced chiefs who wore friendly to Franco by others who were hostile.—Times..
