MUMMY FOR BRITISH MUSEUM

A practical joke, planned by the ancient Egyptians, which lias taken 5000 i years to come to fruition, was oqe of the many discoveries mentioned by Professor Flinders Petrio in a lecture at University College, London. “While wo wore trying to find a way into a Queen’s Pyramid,” lie said, “wo discovered on a rock face a door which was so beautifully .and exactly fitted that it was difficult to see the joints. We immediately sot to work on this, thinking that we had found at last an entrance to the inner chambers. “After a considerable amount of work wo removed the door and found—solid rock!- It was a carefully arranged blind to baulk anyone who wanted to find the entrance into the Royal TombV, and it had been made about 3000 B.C. by someone with a sense of humour.”

A lantern slide photograph of a prehistoric girl, 8000 years old, whose hair and face-skin arc wonderfully preserved, and who was discovered in a peaceful sitting position with her chin resting on her hand, was also shown,' and Professor Petrie said that he hoped to be able to bring this mummified figure to England for the British Museum.
