RAILLESS TRAMS.
EMPOWERING BILL NECESSARY,
The suggested adoption of tho railless tram system for extension of tho tram services in New Plymouth was brought before the officers of the Public Works Department by the borough representatives who wore in Wellington last week. Tho system is heartily approved by engineers 'from England who have recently arrived in Now Zealand, and the Mayor was informed that the system was in rogue in Leeds, Dundee and Glasgow, where it is looked upon as a valuable asset in the development of the cities. Tho deputation was informed by tho Department that they had not gone fully into the matter at tho present time, hut it was thought an Empowering Bill would bo required before the council could adopt and operate the system.
