The following telegram has been received by the Governor-General from tho Secretary of State for the Colonies:— “This telegram is sent at the request of tno Lord Mayor ot Loudon, president of the Appeal Committee,Lorn Robert Cecil., president of tho Executive Council, and Lord Richard Cavendish ,j;liairBian of tho executive council oPtne Imperial War Famine Fund, which has been launched here as an appeal to- combat tho starvation and disease in Europe and the Near East. The patron is ills Majesty the King, the president the Lord Mayor of London, who is supported by tile Prime Minister, the Ford Chancellor and the leaders of all political parties, including tho churches, labour organisations, naval and military services, tho medical profession', with tlie co-operation of tho British Red Cross and the Order of St. John and tho League of Rod Cross Societies. It is intended to co-ordinate and concentrate British effort for the relief of one of tho most terrible tragedies in history, and an impressive Imperial movement is looked for. A specimen of the literature is being posted. -Tho funds are to he administered through tho Red Cross and approved agencies.” The telegram was considered at a 1 meeting of tho executive oi toe Red Cross yesterday, and it was decided that the local committees should receive any subscriptions forthcoming and arrange to remit the money so subscribed. The executive .agreed to supply underclothing to soldiers who had been discharged and for military and civilian hospitals. In reply to a telegram from the London branch for a vote of .-CSOOO towards the establishment of an agent in Calais to assist visiting relatives wishing to see New Zealand graves, it was decided that this was not a matter for the Red Cross Society.
