NAPIER PARK MEETING. FIRST DAY’S RESULTS. Per Press Association. NAPIER, June 18. The Napier Park Racing Club’s winter meeting opened to-day in good weather,. Tliu attendance was good and business on tlio totalisator brisk. A total of £21,798 was put through the machine, against £19,955 on tho first day last year. Results: — Alotoo Hack Hurdles. —Hendra (R. iU'Sweene.y) 1, All Over 2, Marshal Neil 3. Also started; Ladoguer, Birkenyale, Vacuum, Sir Agnes, Banogue, Cyra. Hendra finished easily three lengths ahead of All Over, with a limp. Marshal N'eil was well back. Ladoguer was fourth. Time, Imin. 24 4-ssec. Petano Hack Steeplechase.—Oakleigh 1, Siumix 2, Manhattan 3. Also started: Torchy, Notability, Harbour Light, Master Webster, Te Toa, Jacaramia, ’Cello, Nicomar, Tornea, Nolischo. Notabilit- ran oli. Tornea foil over tho last fence. Siumix was several lengths ahead of the top-weight, which, however, put in a. groat sprint and got the verdict by a narrow margin. Manhattan was a long way back. Te Toa was fourth. Time, 4mm. 20 4-oseo. Stewards’ Stakes Handicap.—Heather Sprig (A. J. M‘Flynn) 1, Gold Kip 2, Maioha 3. Also started: Bagdad, Goldshine, Risingham, Ehcipa, Hindi, Arch Salute, Rose Pink. Heather Sprig led all tho way and won by two lengths. Gold Kip and Maioha finished very fast, the former being second by a nose. Arch Salute was fourth. Time, 1 min. 43 4-ssec. Napier Steeplechase.—Khartoum (F. Flynn) 1, Pcneton 2, Luke ,3. Also started: Old Mungindi, First' Lino, Maraetotara, Guanaco, Polthogue, SiIcnus, Chillies, Bollin. .Horses fell or ran off one after another until the placed horses and Silcnus were the only ones to complete the course. Won by two lengths. Time, 6min. IS 2-ssec. Cadies’ Necklace Handicap.—Ruddy (W. J. Morris) 1, Powder King 2, Ethiopian 3. Also started: Pretty Bobby, Black Lace, Army Service, Vermillion. Tatimi, Europa, King Albert, Sensitive, Loch Dim, Donnyhrook, Buck Eye. Powder King came through fast in the run home, but was a head short of Ruddy at tho post. Ethiopian* was a couple of lengths away. Time, 2min. 16 3-ssec. Almriri Hurdles.—Paddington Green 1, Zola 2, Coldstream 3. Also started : Ore Ore, Meltchikoff, Strangoways. Paddington Green led over tho last obstacle and won by a length. Meltchikoff was fourth. Time, 3min. 13 4-ssec. Settlers’ Hack Handicap Mosthenes (R. Reed) 1, Lord Astolat 2, Piro Piro 3. The race for tho Ascot Gold Cup was most exciting. From the entrance to tho straight Buchan (Frank Bullock) and Tangiers (TTnlme) fought a strenuous battle. Buchanan swerved and Tangiers was partly pulled up to come on the outside. Buchan won by a neck. An objection on account of crossing was upheld, causing the greatest sensation since 1907. when Elder, after dead-heat-ing with White Knight, was disqualifiedfor humping.
