Saturday, June 11.—Mr. Good’s flaxmill at Lrcnui commenced operations lust week.

Our Opunako correspondent reports the wreck of the cutter Lizzie on the rocks on the north-west side of the bay. At the first meeting of the new Town Board on Thursday last Mr. W. M. Crompton was unanimously elected chairman. The secretary reported that the present palliation of tho town for rating purposes was £70,000, compared with £125,000 in 1864 and £95,000 in 1867. Tho block from Black’s corner in Devon Street (Brougham Street corner) to tho Market Place, (present Post Office) was now valued at £3900. From the bridge in Devon Street to the Imperial Hotel was valued at £1441; from Currie Street to Liardet Street, £1960; from Liardet Street to Oddfellows’ Hall, £670; from Hood’s corner (Sole Bros.) to the lane (Jubilee Villa), £B9O.

A sweepstake firing match at the Henui rifle range on Thursday resulted in a win for T. Humphries, who scored 53 out of a possible 75. R. Govett was second with 42, then followed R. Buchanan 41, C. Greenway 37, j. Quigley 35, W. Todd 31, T. Furlong 29, S. Matthews 24, R.. J. Collins 24, H. Arden 22, and W. Elder 22.
