TOWN PLANNING.
RECOMMENDATIONS CARRIED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 10. A conference discussed the question of whether alt improvements, even ot minor -schemes, should lie su omitted to the Town manning Commission, the chairman, Messrs. \V. M. Page ana G. Strauchan were appointed to drall the recommendations covering tlie point. As the result of its deliberations the committee submitted the following recommendations;—That every borougn or town district with a population ot over 2000, shall be a town planning area, two or more adjoining boroughs or town districts with a total population of 2000 shall bo a town ptaiimng area, and that the adjacent land may be declared to form part of the area by the Government on tne recommendation of the central commission. Any other area mdy be declared a town planning area on the recommendation of the central commission, and at the request of the local authority every local town planning board shall be constituted ot (1) representatives of the several boroughs, counties and town districts, comprised in the town planning area to be appointed by the local authorities of those districts, and (2) of two other persons, being ratepayers® within the town planning area, to be elected by the ratepayers. The elections to be held at the same.time as the elections of local authorities within the area. It shall be the duty of the town planning board to prepare a scheme, on town planning lines within twelve months after tho date of the establishment of such a scheme and that it be submitted to the town planner for approval. Should such a town planning board fail to prepare the scheme within the time tho central commission shall draft the scheme and compel such local town planning hoard to carry out the same, until such a scheme is adopted. No more work shall then he undertaken of tho character determined by the commission, without its approval. Recommendations were adopted for the election of officers, which were deferred until the meeting of tho Federation, to he held within two months. Mr. 11. Hill was elected secretary. Before adjourning the conference decided to meet the Minister of Internal Affairs and arrange for a deputation from the Federation.
