AWAKINO.

The weather here Pas, I understand, been as wintry as that experienced in most parts and much more severe than is usually telt at this stage of winter. Tho Mahoe was held up for over a month owing to insufficient depth of water at the bar. This was unfortunate, for her owners and may possibly ettuse them to divert all trade to the Mokau wharf. An unfortunate accident happened to Mr. Burton Condon’s five-year-old daughter while playing at school .recently, the little girl sustaining a broken ram. She was taken through to tire New Plymouth Hospital and is now reported to bo making good progress. Mr. Condon ‘has sold his farm to Mr) M’Gregor. Whilst Awukino will regret to lose a so widely-esteemed resident as Mr. Conjlon, tho very best wishes of the community will accompany him to his new home wherever it may be. Quito a number of local changes have taken place of late. Miss Wolfe has left for Australia to undergo a course of voice production and Miss Kathleen Thomson left on Monday morning for Waipakurau, where she will take up nursing duties at tho sanatorium. Local musical circles will feel the departure, of these two talented young ladies keenly, but will wish them - every success. It ia undrestood that Awakino is also to lose Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Scott, Mr. Fred Beuck and Mr. Ron. Black lyWhy this exodus? There’ll ho no one left to say “Goodbye” soon! •• Mrs. W. D. Thomson is in New Plymouth tending a sick relative. Mrs. Geo. Dixon has returned to “Pioi,” after spending several weeks’ holiday in Auckland and Rotorua, and Mrs. W. Kelly reached home last Friday. Mrs. Cummings is spending a few weeks in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. M'Gregor returned last Wednesday from their holiday in Auckland. Mr. H. Gray, who has been acting-post-master during Mr. M’Gregor’s absence, returned to New Plymouth on Monday.
