EEOM OtTH OWN COEEEBPONDBNT. June 7.—The Mayor of Inglewood (Mr. J. Sutherland) has received advice from Mr. Masters; M.P., that he had interviewed the Public Works Department in reference to the erection of a new police station at Inglewood, that plans were being prepared to be submitted to the Justice Department, and that he had definite assurance from the department that tenders would be called within one month. Once more the Moa Dairy Company has been successful with its exhibits of butter. At the Waikato Winter Show the company tied for first place for the King George Challenge Cup with 95} points, secured third place with'box of butter for export (93} points), and in box of butter suitable for export open to members of the N.Z.F.M. Association secured third place with 94} points, Mr. W. Ross, the popular manager of the Moa Dairy Company, has been receiving many hearty congratulations on his success. At the last meeting of the Inglewood Borough Council it was decided that the Mayor and Councillor Gibbs attend thai conference of local bodies to be held in New Plymouth on June 9. If either one cannot go the town clerk is to fill the vacancy. It was also decided that the vacant shop in Curtis’s buildings he taken for twelve months at a rental of £1 per week, the shop to be used as a rest room for country ladies. The Plunket Society is to be allowed the use of the room at a rental of 7s 6d per, week. The council has decided to purchase a property for their employees and at Wednesday’s meeting resolved that the matter of purchasing the property be left in the hands of the Mayor and Councillors Gibbs and Fawcett, and that they report on same at a special meeting to be held on Wednesday. The Flappers’ _ Social takes place on Thursday, 10th inst., when progressive euchre will be provided in the supper room for non-dancers. Miss Curd’s orchestra has been’engaged, so dancers will he sure of a good time. The proceeds are to go to the proposed Inglewood Soldiers’ Memorial. Mr. W. H. Humphrey has disposed of his shop to Mrs. M, Sutherland. The rainfall at Inglewood for May as recorded by Mr. Frank Brown, was 5.43 inches, rain falling on 10 days. The gauge at Norfolk Road showed 4.81 inches, rain falling on eight days.
