NOTES BY “HISTORICDS.” Good racing should be witnessed at Woodville to-morrow (Wednesday) and Thursday, cm which days the Woodville Jockey Club will hold their summer fixture. Racing will open with the Hack Hurdles, and should Reinzi jump better than he did at Feilding he may make the finish interesting. Tuticorn and Hautawa should be better suited over the shorter course on the second day, A large field will probably start for the Trial, which contains the names of a number of promising horses. The youngsters, Tessares and Gasbag, should be well supported, as both are last. A good handicap field figures in the chief event. Crenides and Dribble are at the top of the list, and as both have recent winning form to their credit they should he well supported. Of the lighter weights Oratress,” Bagdad and Bose Wreath have their admirers, but the form of the top-weights reads best. The hacks engaged in the Grandstand Hack are above the average, and several of the acceptors should be well supported. If saddled up Admyra will be. favourite, as she is good; in her absence Red Signal and Admiral Advance may run well forward. The Electric field will not he as strong as is usual at this meeting, but if Munhiku starts she may gallop as fast as the opposition wish. Statuette is in the “boom” and will receive support for this event. Parorangi ran well at Ashhurst, and o-u the better course should perform well to-morrow. Most opposition will come from Swanee River, who won like a good one at Feilding. In the absence of Simonides, Hyttus and Daytime should divide favouritism for the Welter, as the field is a poor one. _ _ Hnlycon is very well just now, and should run prominently in the Welter Hack; Makepeace may be the most dangerous opponent. The imported Arrowsmith will make his first appearance in public at Woodvillo to-morrow. Oney Cox took over the well-bred Maohree (Bczonian —Lady Helen) after the Feilding meeting. Many who saw Swanee River finishing in the Feilding Stakes (in which event the daughter of Demosthenes finished almost abreast of Acre, Croesus and Affectation) solidly supported her in the Hack Flying, which she won on the second day. The New Plymouth-trained Simonides is engaged in two races to-morrow, but rumour has it that the brown gelding will not start for the Electric Handicap. A quartette of two-year-olds in Fortune Teller, Askari, Gasbag and Tessftres are engaged in the Trial Plate tomorrow, and I will be surprised if the best of them does not play a leading part in the decision of the race. An off er of £IOOO was recently made for Weary Willie, nt the offer was. refused. This colt will compete in the classics at Awapuni, and will make matters interesting for Acre in these races! Marqueteur was benefitted by his racing at Feilding, and is now receiving a preparation for the Manawatu’ Cup, in which event he should run well. In Silver Link and Simonides Taranaki is well represented in the Auckland Railway Handicap, but both may find a difficulty in conceding the weight to King Abbey, which has a great reputation. 1
