December S.-—The daily factory output for Aovembor is well ahead of the corresponding month of last year and., were it not for the continued strong winds and absence of rain, the outlook for the season would be a good one. We did not participate in the rain that freshened up North Taranaki on Saturday and the clouds that gathered at mid-day to-day dispersed after mocking the hopes of farmers v/ith a few spots of the much-dosired fluid. Prohibition addresses were given in Broadway on Saturday afternoon by the iter. -Mr. Tinsley and Messrs. Kerr anil Lil'oy. There was a big and attentive audience and a few interjectors of the opposite way of thinking kept the speakers on their mottle and amused the crowd. Lines of demarcation between the political parties and the opposing schools of opinion on the liquor question intersect rather queerly and it is not .uncomufon to find two close allies on the Parliamentary issue turned into implacable .foes on the introduction of a chance remark about the licensing poll. However, there is generally sufficient sense on both sides to keep both points of agreement and points of difference from exercising too great an influence upon social intercourse. Strolling through King Edward Park yesterday afternoon I could not avoid being impressed with the want of appreciation shown by the .public for tlie beautiful scenery lying at their very doors. Except for a few boys and girls there was no one dhore. It really seems a waste of good land, time and money to provide such places. An acre or two laid out with gravelled walks, a tea-shop with a gramaphono, a few seats and a dancing platform would attract ten times the number of visitors.
