BATHING FATALITY.
AT TTTAHI BAY. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Deo.. S. At Titahi Bay there was 1 an accident which was very nearly a tragedy on a large scale. There was a heavy sea with a strong backwash, and several of the bathers had great difficulty in fighting their way to tho shore. Two of them had a 45-miuutes’ struggle, and, for a time, tho condition of several after they were brought out was serious, particularly that of Constable Noil. The absence of a lifeline was partly responsible for the difficulty ot rescue.
WELLINGTON, Doc. 8. Particulars of the drowning of Mr. Dromgool show that the members of a picnic party wore swimming in the breakers and two ladies got into difficulties. After assisting in the rescue of ono Mr. Dromgool proposed to help with the other, who was being brought in with some difficulty by J. Neil, constable, who tried to dissuade him, saying it was unnecessary, but Dromgool persisted and was last seen by Neil as the latter turned on his back exhausted to float. Deceased was a solicitor in the Public Trust Office and was about 35 and only recently married.
