BAST END RESERVE.

-.The interest that has been shown by the townspeople in the foreshores of New Plymouth is further exemplified by the splendid financial support which they are giving to the East End Bathing Reserve Committee. The committee have decided on carrying out extensive improvements to the reserve and its surroundings this year. The erection of a permanent weir across the river will be the first undertaking. This weir, when finished, will make this river the finest and safest bathing re*-' sort in the Dominion. The scheme that has been designed by Mr. W. H. Cook, borough engineer, will serve a double purpose—the flood gates are so designed that the depth can he controlled so that there will he always sufficient water to enable all diving and swimming sports to he carried out'without fear of accidents; there will also bo a shallow pond on the sides of the river where the little ones can paddle in perfect tyThe grounds are now receiving special attention and a motor drive will he constructed through the grounds. Provision is also being made for the parking of cars and conveniences inside the grounds. r The bathing pavilion is now open for the season, bathing costumes and towels can ho had from the caretaker.
