3\IEETING OF GENERAL COM- I MITTEE. j A meeting of the General Committee of tho Taranaki Agricultural Society was held at tho office of the secretary (Air. W. P. Okoy) this afternoon, AH'. W. B. Grant presiding. There were also present: -Messrs. H. C. Sampson, A. R. Gudopp, J. R. Rowlands, E. C. Stanley, 0. X' airbrothor, R. H. Pigott, B. Houcyliold, L. T. AYalker, A. T. Aloore, G. C. Taylor, A. E, Washer, C. \V. Ruebe, A. Turnbull, A. J. Lux- ; ton, S. Vickers, H. Stonex, J. A. Kurth, and F. Dodunski. Apologies were received from Messrs, Davis ami AV’. Hall. Tho winter show dates wore fixed for tho second week in Juno. The question of erecting a stile over the fence at tho Rewa Rewa range as requested by the Defence Department was referred to the Grounds Committee with power to, act. The secretary was instructed to communicate with local dairy factory managers and the dairy produce graders asking them to revise the dairy section. The secretary will write to local seed merchants asking if they are willing to continue their donations of prizes for the field acreage competitions. A subcommittee consisting of Messrs. Grant, Dobson, Benton and Dickson was appointed to revise the field acreage section. A’arioua matters in connection with improvements to the shew grounds were referred to tho Grounds Committee. Flags will be obtained for marking off tho competition rings. ’ Mr. G. AV. Browne wall be asked to prepare an estimate of the cost of erecting permanent racks and feed boxes in the cattle pens in the pavilion. Tho question of arranging for the erection of flag poles on the grandstand was referred to Mr. Browne. Messrs. W. Colson (Mangorei Road), G. S. Millar (Now Plymouth) and G. 1 H. Short (New Plymouth) were elected members of the society. Tho Egmont A. and P. Association, wrote that they had agreed to allow; half an inch for shoes on horses and ponies which had to be measured. The chairman reported that tho following donations had been promised:— J. PoTetti, £1 is; C. AV. Ruebe, £1 Is; G. Bell, £2 2s; W. Hooke, £1 Is; A. R. Gudopp, £1 Is; J. S. Jones, £3 3s; E. Bayly, £1 10s; A. H. Halcombo, £l6 15a. . It has been decided to increase tho ] first prize money in the hunters’ : champion jumping competition to £6O, second prize to £lO and third prize to £5. Substantial increases have also boon made in tho prize money in the; other jumping competitions. A class has been included in the; schedule for calves entered in the first Taranaki Jersey Oaks, the prizes allotted being £4, £2 and £l. It was decided to write tho Agricultural Department for a number of copies of a pamphlet on “American Meat Packers’ Methods” for circulation among members.
