FINES FOR BETTING.

AT GISBORNE GROCERY SHOP. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Dec. 4. At the Magistrate's Court, Robert Roland Kidson and Francis ’William Erickson wore charged before Mr. Barton, S.M., “that being occupiers of a grocery store, they did keep and use such premises as a common gaming house.” They wore further charged with frequenting Gladstone Road, a public place, for the purpose of betting. The charges were laid as a result of a police raid. ' Each accused was fined £'2-5, and on the second charge Kidson was fined £l. The magistrate said it was stated by a detective that the telegraph office was used for betting transactions.
