INGLEWOOD.

FROM OtTB OWN COBBESPONDENT. Dec. 3.—After the heavy rain last nignt one would have aardiy imagined that the water cart would be needed to-day to settle the dust, but such has bean the case. The weather for the last few days has been cold and very windy with heavy rain last night, and this morning the mountain had a covering of snow right to the trees. The oldest inhabitant says that he has never yet seen snow so far down the mountain at this time of the year, as it was this morning. On Mpnday a cricket match was played on the local ground between the Inglewood Club and the world. Great interest wap taken in the match as the losing team had to pay for a dinner to both teams at the Inglewood Hotel that night, the club being the victors; “the world” had to stand the cost. About 35 sat down and a most enjoyable time was spent. • On Saturday Mr. Masters spoke to the electors ffom the band rotunda, the Mayor presiding. Mr. Masters was subjected to a little heckling by a person, who was ohviously “under the influence.” Last night Mr. S. G. Smith addressed a very good audience in the Town Hall, the Mayor presiding. The speaker had a very attentive hearing, punctuated by applause. There was only one interjection —a voice from the dress circle stating that Mr. Smith was both optimistic and egotistic. Mr- Smith ended his address with an eulogy on Mr. Masters. There were few questions asked, and these were all answered satisfactorily. In proposing a vote of thanks Mr. Bocock expressed the wish that, Mr. Smith _ would again bo returned as member for Taranaki. On the motion nf Mr. Smith a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman was carried by. acclamation. Reporters were conspicuous by their absence. Dr. M'Allum has arrived from Feilding and has commenced practice in Inglewood, having taken rooms for consultation ,at Mr. C. 0. Roberts’ residence. ■ , , Two weddings have been celebrated in Inglewood recently. Miss Harvie being married to Mr. Clough, of Waionpona; and Miss White, of Th'irek, England, being married to Mr. Armstrong, Mayor of Te Amamutu. The school concert is to be held on December 12 instead of the 18th as originally intended. Probably the powers that be think it better to get it off before the upheaval of the 17th.
