MUNICIPAL BY-ELECTION.

POLLING TO-DAY. Polling was taking place to-day for the election of a councillor to fill the vacancy created on the New Plymouth Borough Council caused by the retirement of Councillor Clarko, who resigned to contest the Mayoralty recently. There are two candidates in the field, Mr. A. E. Sykes, the nominee of the Ratefnyers’ Association, and Mr. W. H. nominee of the Labour Party. The booths opened at 9 o’clock, and wilLclose at 7 o’clock. The arrangements of Mr. R. Day, returning officer, seem to he complete in every little detail. Up to midday the contest had not apparently aroused a great deal of interest. The result of the voting will be announced this evening at the principal booth, Whiteley Sunday School.
