SALVATOR WINS STAKES. On Saturday afternoon ah Glenavon (Fitzroy) the coursing meeting conducted by the Taranaki and Egmont Coursing Clubs was brought to a satisfactory conclusion, though several heavy showers of rain foil during the latter part of tho afternoon. - The attendance was „ not very large. Tho final in the Taraj naki Stakes .was won by Mr. It. Child’s | Salvator, which put up 5J points ! against 14 secured by Mr. P. Haskell’s Commenor. The latter ran five courses during the afternoon to tho winner’s three, as she ran two undecided courses with Bill’s Gift before beating him in the third by 3 points to 1. Salvator, whose owner resides at Hamilton, is a black dog by Wild Dale —Golden Fleece and is now in his second season. He was runner up for, the Waikato Challenge , Hundred and won several smaller stakes last year. A popular - win in the Supplementary Stakes for tho eight dogs heaten in the first and second rounds of the Taranaki Stakes was secured by Mr. Fred Nichoils with his Gloaming, which beat Messrs. Doolaghty .and Jarrott’s Castle Isle by 5 points to nil. ; Tho detailed results aro as follows : Taranaki Coursing Stakes (First £36 and trophy presented by Messrs'. Doolaghty and Jarrett, second £l2, third £6 and two of £2 10s).—Third round: Some Hope 3, Sunsp6t'2; Salvator 2, Martial Air 0; Commenor 3, Bill’s Gift 1. Semi-final: Salvator 2, Some Hope 0; Commenor a bye. A smoke concert was held in the Foresters’ Hall in the evening, there being p, large attendance. Mr. S. G. Smith, ALP., presided and Mr. AV. T. Jennings, M.P., was among those present. During the evening the prizes were distributed. , The meeting regarded as being so successful that ft has been decided to hold another one- in. September, and a committee meeting will be held at Mr. F. Nichoils’ rooms on AA'ednesday evening to make, arrangements. Tho. Melbourne Argus of July 16 says in the course of a report of the Victorian AVatcrloo Cup meeting, that during an interval in the coursing, Mr. D. Canny, president of the AV'erribee Club, made a presentation, on behalf of the chib, to Airs. H. Pape (nee Miss Audrey Chirnsidc) of a pair of silver cake dishes, in recognition of tho services she had rendered the club, and coursing generally. In doing so- Mr.. . Canny described Airs. Pape as greatest coursing lady in the world. In acknowledging the presentation, Airs. Pape stated that she was leaving Victoria for England in September, and she intended to take some Australian doga with her, with a view to attempting to jvin the English .Waterloo Cug.
