MR. HUGHES’ VIEWS. ON THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received August 4, 8.5 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 29. Mr. Chafles E. Hughes, the unsuccessful presidential candidate at the last elections, communicated to tho United Slates Senate a suggestion for reservations in connection with the League of Nations covenant for adoption' by tho Senate. Mr. Hughes proposed that any nation shall cease to he a member of tho League immediately upon giving notice of its withdrawal. Questions dealing with immigration, import duties, and similar domestic mn Iters shall not be .submitted to the League of Nations. Tho United Stales shall he left free to oppose tho acquisition of territory on tho American con I incut by any nonAmerican nation. The United Slates should not -agree to employ military forces in any possible, future conflicts except by consent of Congress.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
