Air. 11. Day, borough inspector, leaves this week on a holiday trip to Auckland.

Mr. and 1 Mrs. W. N. Ewing have gone to live at- Brixtou with their two sons, who have taken up fanning.

Mrs. G. Taylor, of Smart Road, lias received word that her son, Gunner N. V. Taylor, is returning by the Giessen, due on August 2. On inquiry at the hospital this morning it was found that the condition of Mr. T. Robinson, manager of the Mangoroi Dairy Company, who was yesterday operated *jn fqr appendicitis, remains serious.

Mr. H. Loveridge of Hurford Road, Omnia, has received cable advice that Ids son, Wilfred H. Loveridge. is returning to New Zealand by H.M.S. Giessen, due to arrive at Wellington on August 2. Corporal Loveridge left with the 12th Reinforcements.

A Christchurch telegram reports that Sir John Donniston died early this morning from pneunu.nia, following on pleurisy. Sir John was 74 years of age. He was horn in Scotland and educated at Glasgow University. He became, a barrister in IS7 I, and was appointed to the bench in 1889. Sir If most Rutherford, the newlyappointed Cavendish Professor of Experimental Physics at Cambridge, lias been elected to a Fellowship at Trinity Collego. He afterwards proceeded to the M.A. degree. At the .same congregation, he was admitted to his pufcsior He has also had conferred upon nun at Durham University the honorary degree D.Ss.

The death occurred suddenly at Wanganui on Saturday afternoon of Mr. N. Andrew, editor of the Rangitikei Advocate, Alarton. Air. Andrew was visiting his nephew’s place at Gonvillc. Ho complained of feeling unwell, and before medical aid was available he died. Mr. Andrew was 09 years of age, and had been in indifferent health.
