FOOTBALL.
THE SOCCER GAME. A meeting of the New Plymouth Association Football Club was held at tho club rooms on Friday evening to discuss prospects for the present season. There was a large attendance of playing and honorary members. It was decided to form a team and to get into communication with other centres with a view to arranging matches. A letter was received from the Eltham hootball Club asking for a suitable date for a trial match. As most of the old players have now returned from the front Soccer enthusiasts are- looking forward to a good competition being arranged in laranaki, and will be glad if any young fellows desirous of joining up will call at the club room or communicate with Mr. E. A. Elliot. Currie Street. The secretary was instructed to write about a ground, and other business of a routine character was transacted. A further meeting will be held on Friday next. An Association match between a town team and a team from the liner Whakatane was mooted for Thursday of this week, but the proposal had to he abandoned owing to the men from the steamer not being able to get away from duty. The game would ' have made an interesting introductory chapter to the new volunt® of Soccer, which, so it is hoped, is about to bo compiled in New Plymouth.
