THE PICTURE WORLD.

ALICE BRADY IN “THE BETTER HALF.” Popular Alice Brady will star at Everybody’s to-night and to-morrow night in the latest Select super-feature, “The Better Half.” The winsome Alice has been a great favourite in all her previous pictures, but sho is credited with making the success of her career in this powerful dramatic story of society life. It is doubtful if the well-remembered motive, the substituting of .one twin sister for the other, has ever been used more skilfully. David Powell, who was so much liked in “Gloria’s Romance,” is the husband in “The Better Half.” It is a picture of two sisters who are held up to the inspection of the audience. They are twins—alike in face as twins are supposed to bo, but totally different on character, indie one'is nursing a sick grandfather, the other is dancing till daybreak in New York. And later, when sweet Louise is a settlement worker, sister is deserting her husband for" the passing affection of another man. Louise, it may be seen, is the ideal; hut Trixie is vastly more entertaining. Alice Brady gives a splendid portrayal in the dual role of the two sisters. “The Better Half,” screens to-night and to-morrow only. THE PEOPLE’S. DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS. A great reception was accorded “Mr. Fixit” on Saturday. “Mr. Fixit” is Douglas Fairbanks’ latest Artcrnft picture, and also presents the wonderful Artcraft Kids. “Mr. Fixit” proved himself an expert fixer of thisgs, hut ho finally is compelled to turn over the fixing apparatus to a six-year-old to bring things out just right in the end. This is where one of the clever Artcraft Kiddies takes hold of the reins and fixes up his big sister and Mr. Fixit himself, which brings about one of the prettiest endings seen in a motion picture for a long time. The programme includes the latest Gazette, Burton Holmes, and “The Eagle’s Eye.’ To-morrow’s new. bill will present Pauline Fredericks in “Fedora,” the great French play ■which has been made immortal on the stage by Sarah Bernhardt. “Fedora” is a powerful play, running the, whole gamut of the passions. The second chapter of “The Railroad Raiders” entitled “The Double Steal,” gazette, comcdV, and Burton Holmes Travelog, are also on to-morrow’s big bill.
