WORKERS’ DWELLINGS.

WIDENING THE LIMIT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 13. The Superintendent of Workers’ Dwellings announced to-day that authority had been received for the erection of 200 workers’ dwellings, and also for the receipt of applications from workers earning salaries up to £225 per annum. Formerly no application from persons earning more than £175 per annum could, he. entertained. So the fixing of the new limit at £225 represents an important widening of the Department’s activities. The Department is instruct- • ing its agents throughout the Dominion to allow a. fortnight for the submission of further applications for these dwellings. The agents will report upon applicants who come forward, and' the Workers’ Dwellings Board in Wellington will deal with each application, approving or rejecting it. In each case close inquiry will be made to ensure that the applicant is of good character and is likely to carry out his financial and other obligations to the hoard, which will allocate the 200 dwellings to different towns, according to demand. Precedence among aproyed applicants will he determined by the order in which the application has been reserved.
