HOTEL ACCOMMODATION.

COMPLAINTS IN CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 2. At a meeting of the Licensing Committee to-day the chairman stated that lie had visited, many hotels in Christchurch, and in some the accommodation was so had that he was considering the question of condemning certain premises. Complaints have been made to the committee of travellers being refused meals because they asked for them after the schedule time. The chairman pointed out that the licensees were also mkeepers, and were hound to supply meals .at any time of the day or night, and must also provide accomodation for travellers as long as it was available. The penalties for noncompliance with the law were very heavy. The Health Officer’s report recommended certain alterations to the bars and premises of a number of hotels, some of which, the chairman stated, were beyond the jurisdiction of the committee. The committee adjourned for a fortnight, the chairman stating that all the licensees who are lessees must produce a statement ,showing any encumbrances on their leases.
