A Wellington message reports the death of Mr. John Ilott. the well-known advertising agent, aged 67. Mrs. F. G. Wood has received advice that her husband, Private F. G. Wood, is returning by the Waimana ■ Mr Gideon Pott has been appointed to the staff of the Thames branch of the Bank of New •Zealand and leaved for his new home on Tuesday nest. Mrs. F. M. Barriball has received word that, her son. Private Ted Handball, is returning on the Wamana, due at Auckland about June 20. The Rev. W. Gray-Dixon, M.A., Moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly, has just completed a tour of Hie Wanganui and Taranaki district. Unfortunately, time did not permit or his paying a visit to New Plymouth, but it ‘is hoped that arrangements will bo made for his doing so m the near ru,ture. A verv well-known resident of Hawera district m the person of Mr. M. J. Goodson passed away on Tuesday 1 after a short illness, at the age of 56 years. Mr. Goodson was the eldest son of the late Mr. M. J. Goodson, and was born in Wanganui, coming with his parents to Hawera as a hoy. With his father he was one of the first to bring cattle and sheep from Wanganui, when they acquired the farm at Waihi, between'Hawera and Normanby. Mr. Goodson had lived near the old homestead ever since with the exception of some years spent at Whangarei. In his vounger days he took a keen interest in cricket, and played for several years with the Hawera teams. He was also prominent in racing and sports generally, having been the owner ana breeder 'of many good horses. He married a daughter o? «Jas. Connell, who, with a family of eight children, is left to mourn their loss. Mncn sympathy will be felt for them in their time of sorirow.—Star.
