FIRES.

A BLAZE AT OPOTIKI. Per Press Association. OPOTIKI, June iA A fire started in the heart of the town this morning. The shops owned by J. C. Arthur, and occupied by H. B. Battle (bootmaker) and J. Steptoe (saddler), and the building owned and occupied by H. Lorraer (tobacconist) were completely destroyed. The insurances totalled £IOSO. All tho occupiers were heavy losers. The brigade was promptly on the scene and proven ted, the spread of thd fire to the adjoining buildings. The large plate glass window of a shop on the opposite side of the street, owned by w. Oakes, was shattered. Therd was a distinct bullet hole in tho remaining portion. Tho heat from the fire wfiS not considered sufficient to break the window. The police are investigating) the occurrence.
