WEATHER REPORT.

FOR MAY, 1919, (Recorded at Pukekura. Park meteorological station; attitude 160 ft.) The month opened with three, days overcast but mild weather. .From the 3rd till the 18th the daily temperatures dlnctuated slightly with increasingly ■cold nights. From the 18th to the •JGth the maximum shade temperature decreased from 6Sdeg. to 4-ldeg, which is a very low coastal temperature lor the latitude of New Plymouth. Following a. day of heavy' north-east rain, the wind, veering to the south-east, blow intensely cold on the 26th and 27th. Heavy snowstorms occurred on Mount Egmont. The wind blew with hurricane force on the summit of the mountain, and shifted the fresh snow in immense rnatees which fell around its northern slopes. Heavy dews were noted on six mornings, hoar frosts on four mornings, and Ideg. of frost on one morning. Fresh to strong winds blew oh 11 days but none attained to storm velocity or strength. Follow ing are the records of the month: — Maximum temperature, 45deg. on 26th, 68deg. on 9th and 18th Minimum temperature, 31deg. on 26th' and 27th, 54deg. on 6th. Maximum wet-bulb. 44deg. on 26th and 27th, 50deg. on Sth and 9th. Minimum wet-bulb, 37deg. on 26th, 47deg. on the 9th. Solar radiator (sun’s heat), 112 deg. on 26th, 13 ideg. on 6th. The Ist, 2nd, and lith ' were sunless days. Sunshine recorder, 32mm on 3rd, lOhr, 2min on 9th; total 179 hrs, 4min. Bain fell on 7 days; 7 points (100 to inch) on 26th, 115 points on 25th ; total 2.031 in. Wind: North-east 1, south 3, south south-east 5, south-east 11, south-west 8 days. The 14th, 15th, and IRlh wore calm days.
