We have pleasure in introducing to our readers a splendid .story of love ajnd adventure from the pen of Aliss E. i'Jverett-Groon, who, knowing the best .English life from daily intimate contsvet, is able to portray her characters with sure touch and true understanding. The story opens with Anne Deshorongh, at the age of 25, deciding to taste like before settling down to marriage—or a career. Aided by a competence and a fine training in horsemanship, she commences her adventures by obtaining a post as waitress in a fashionable West End teasbop, and training the daughters of Mayfair in Rotton Row. One morning she rebukes a rider for curbing his mount severely, and finds be is the Hon. Jack Raven, whom she had met several years before. Jack docs not recognise her. Later Jack's brother, Lord Ravonhill, heir to the Valehestcr es- | tates, enters the tea-shop with a lady . known as the Princess, but whom Anne formerly knew as Madame Olga. The “princess” is obviously endeavouring to trap Lord Havcnhill into a marriage, but his lordship, wiio suffers from a brain injury, is not suitable for it. His family are alarmed, and Mrs. Ikdiermaiu, Anne’s friend, suggests she .should allure the young man away from the adventuress. Anne decided to do so and later enters the Valchoster circle, being invited to the family scat. Anne discovers that Jack's parents expect him to marry their ward, Amabel Sellars. While staying at Valchestor Towers, Anne saves three children from a burning bouse, and in turn is rescued by Jack, at the point of suffocation, A few hours previously Jack has discovered that Anne is the girl he had known 'ears before and she, thoroughly in love with him, decides to leave the 'Powers lost lie propose and disappoint his family and Amabel. Anne now turns her attention into liberating the ncak Lord Ravcnhill from the ‘ machinations of Olga, who, having disappeared for a time, returns under the. name of Princess Kilinsky, and with a change of complexion and residence. Anno sees through the disguise, and, greatly daring, propounds a plan to Jack whereby his brother can bo saved from Olga’s clutches. At the moment of success. Lord Ravcnhill, in a momentary temper, wrecks Anne’s car, in which they arc travelling, and is himself killed. Jack is compromised, but Anne clears him and herself makes for the Alps, where she finds other amazing adventures before a happy climax is reached. Our readers will follow Anne with the greatest interest, as she breathes energy and depth of feeling over every chapter of this well-sustained .story. TO BE COMMENCED TO-MORROW.
