PTOMAINE POISONING.
DEATH AFTER EATING PRESSED BEEF. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 2. An inquiry was held yesterday into the cause, of the death of Mrs. M. T. Williams, a widow who died suddenly on Friday. H. T. Holloway, a nephew of deceased, at whose residence deceased had been residing for some time past, stated that he had purchased pressed beef on Thursday for the evening meal. Witness, his mother, his wife and child, and deceased alt partook of the meat, and he, his wife and deceased were taken ill, but not the others. As deceased appeared to become worse medical aid was obtained.
Dr. Mickle gave evidence that death was duo to ptomaine poisoning. He had reported the case to the District Health Officer.
Dr. Widdowson, who made a postmortem examination, said that, in his opinion, death was duo to ptomaine poisoning. The inquest was adjourned till Juno 6 to enable the remaining portion or the pressed beef to be analysed by the Government analysist.
