MOTOR-CAR LIGHTS.

TO THE EDITOE. Sir, —It is to be hoped' that, although on a technical point the police failed in their prosecution of a motorist for using motor lights of excessive ppwer, the matter will still receive earnest attention, and if the Borough and County Councils cannot prevent tho actions of motorists in this respect the Government should frame an. act dealing with the subject. The using of dazzling headlights has caused, and is causing, too much inconvenience and danger, and numbers of motorists experience a difficulty in keeping their cars out of danger through being temporarily dazzled. The whole matter could be at once remedied* by compelling every motorist Ito use the latest lamp glass made, especially to break tho dazzle, which at the same time does not affect the power of tho light, but by its diffusing, tho approach to the lights is perfectly safe. While on the subject of safety, many wonder why tho owners of motor lorries, wagons, etc., are not compelled to affix mirrors; the drivers cannot possibly hear 'the horn of an approaching car, and as the lorry invariably takes tho middle of the road the motorist has to taffo tho risk in passing it. . If a mirror was fixed protruding from tho wind-screen, the driver of the lorry could at once see tho approach of a car and thus give tho necessary room. The allowing by tho council of quite, youngsters driving cars is a, menace to the public, and should be remedied. Pchaps when a big accident takes place somebody in New Plymouth even will wake up. —I am, etc., MOTORIST.
