This is conclusively proved throughout New Zealand hy the fact that not only have the more recently established companies had all the stock they can cope with, hut .the older companies have had to increase their capacity from time, to time to keep pace with the industry. In this province the proportion of FREEZING STOCK is increasing at an extraordinary rate. To meet the demands the Taranaki Farmers’ Meat Company, which has already in the brief space of three years doubled and redoubled its works, must provide further accommodation. Additional capital of £50,000 has been authorised to do it with. To obtain the most economical results the capacity of the works should not he less than 1500 sheep ami 150 head of cattle daily. It is now 1000 sheep and SO cattle daily. The stock must be put through immediately it is ready. AH’ the departments must'be increased—the slaughtering, preserving, tallow, manure, etc. IT IS A SOUND PROPOSITION for farmers to subscribe the capital. The employer is required to pay them a wage of £1 a week and found, whilst the Committee pays an.allowance, to the men whilst receiving training of £1 per week, half of which is retained on his behalf by the Repatriation Department. It must be. recognised that there is a duty cast on every member of the community to help the Returned Soldiers, who have risked all and suffered untold hardship to maintain freedom and justice. Without their efforts we would all be now in bondage and the farmers would not be in possession of their fee simple. The Committee therefore appeals to the patriotism of the farmers to help the returned men to learn farming and equip them to become producers, the more of whom we have, the greater the production, and the Easier the burden caused by the war.
