Tho New York Times’ Brussels correspondent interviewed M. do la Croix, tho now Belgian Premier. Ho said; “England and the United States have assured us that they would treat us like Englishmen or Americans. Wo cannot enter tho Entente zolverein, for wo must remain free and independent. I hope England will retain her freetrade policy, and hope and believe wo shall remain neutral, but I do not like neutrality forced upon us by the Powers. Wo may enter into alliances for tho purpose of defending our indepen-dence.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
