Captain W. H. Hawkins will stand as candidate for the Wellington South seat.

A London cable states that Prince Antoine of Orleans died as a result of a flying accident on Tuesday. : The death occurred at the New Plymouth Hospital on Saturday ,of Mrsh Winifred S. Sisley, a well and highly respected local nurse. - . . . Mr. Seymour, general secretary of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, is seriously ill of pneumonia following influenza. ■

Our Wellington correspondent telegraphs that Mr. Montgomery (Christchurch), who was in the running for the position of Director of Repatriation, is not likely to be'appointed! In a recent list of war honours appear the names of the following Taranaki- men who have beeri awarded the Military Medal;—Corporal E. J. Linn (E. W, Linn, father); Private C. C. Lord (C. P. Lord, .Hawera, father); Lance-Corporal C. J. Ball (Mrs. C. J. Ball, Eltham, wife); LanceCorporal John R. Gould (E. P. -Gould, Eltham, brother). • ‘

Mr. W. J. Laurent, of Normanhy, has received advice that his son, Private W. Laurent, was wounded bn November 11 and admitted to hospital, whilst a later message states that he was removed to a convalescent depot iu France on the 13 th. Private Laurent is a grandson of Mr, M. J. R. De St. Laurent and a cousin of Sergt. H. J. Laurent, V.C., of Hawera. The latter is only 22 years of age, Mr. and Mrs. J. Drake,-of Inglewood, will have the sympathy of a-large circle of friends in the death of their only son, Mr. Sydney F. Drake, which occurred a few days ago at Auckland, where he was spending 'a homlay. The deceased had been very successful in his studies at the New Plymouth High School and was one of the 1917 prefects.,. He was a splendid athlete- 'and a prominent member of the school’s! first fifteen. The death occurred on .Sunday of Mr. AY. E. Dockrill, son of Air. and Mrs. E. Dockrill, of Now Plymouth. Mr. Dockrill, wh? was only .33. years of age, was a boot importer and retailer and had built up a very successful business. Ho was of a quiet unassuming nature and had won the respect qof a largo circle of friends, who will sincerely regret- to hear of his death. To his bereaved parents, general sympathy'will bo extended. • _ ■

Mr. A. A. Thompson, who for the past three years has been secretary of the West End Bowling Club and is leaving the district, having'disposed! of his business; ■ was presented ’a few days ago with a silver cigayettg casmsuitahly inscribed. Mr.. J. D. Solo, .president of the club, made the presentation and ina few appropriate remarks referred to .the popularity of the recipient both as a bowler and also in his official capacity as secretary of the club. ; Mr. Thompson, in returning thanks, said that some of the happiest days of his life had been spent on the West End-bowling green ami he hoped’ that on sonic future occasion he would return to New Plymouth and renew his associations with the club.
