EFFICIENCY BOARD.

WEEKLY MEETING. The weekly meeting of the New Plymouth Efficiency Board Trustees was held on Friday, there being present: Messrs. T. Furlong (chairman) E. Whittle and F. J. Hill (secretary). A good deal of correspondence was re-ceived-from the Commissioner, Wellington, and also from the Pensions Board relative to applications that had been sent from the local office. The d opartmen concerned had dealt with the matters expeditiously and also in a satisfactory manner for the -reservists interested. An applicant for widowed mothers’ pension waited on the trustees in connection with her affairs and learned that her case had received the favourable consideration of the Pensions Board. A Second Division reservist waited on the board in connection with his property on the Main Trunk line and furnished an account of the receipts from same which he asked the trustees to submit to the Pensions Board. A -widowed mother interviewed the board in connection with her son’s estate. Her hoy was killed in France twelve months ago and so far his affairs had not been wound up. She asked, for the trustees’ assistance. The trustees decided to take the matter in hand with a view to getting the information sought for. A returned soldier who made inquiries as to procuring a small farm suitable for dairying was referred to the Commissioner of Crown Lands. A reservist: on special leave in connection with his business called and stated he found the time insufficient to complete arrangements. He wanted an additional seven days.—The board decided to make a recommendation for this to he granted. A prominent business man approached the board stating he bad received’ an urgent business call from Australia and ho requested the board to assist him in getting leave from Camp for his son who was qualified to take charge during his absence. His business was essential and this made it imperative that he should in the present instance obtain the required leave.—Application was made to the Director of Recruiting and granted. A reservist who made an application at a former meeting for extension of leave to complete sale of his business, was granted eight days by the camp -adjutant for this purpose. Four Second Division men called on the hoard relative to financial assistance and were supplied with forms, and instructions as to procedure. » A lady called for advice re securing a farm for her son shortly returning. She was referred to the Compiissioner of Crown Lands whose department deals with these applications. A family residing at Loppcrton with two sons at the front (one killed) offered' their services as sharcmilkcrs and were prepared to milk 15 to 20 cows.
