Saturday, January 25.—0 n Saturday morning last the beach was quit© lively from the fact that the brigantine Dispatch had arrived from the Chatham Islands with 150 Maoris. a Mr. R;-JRundle’s tender has been accepted for the construction of a bridge over the Waiongona River, the contract price being £325. The half-yearly meeting of the Taranaki Petroleum Company was held on Tuesday, Mr. R. Chilman presiding. The ebairnnn stated that they had reached a depth of 4flo feet without coming upon oil, though the indications had boon good for the last, 100 feet or so.
