COLONEL REPINGTON.

ON THE MILITARY POSITION. LONDON, Nov. 26. If we glance at tho situation in Germany, we see that, though she may .still possess 5,500,000 mon in tho aggregate at homo and on her fronts, of which some 2,000,000 or so are in.the West, her depots are no longer fuft, and she is left with nothing to support her armies but the young classes and the recovered wounded. If no radical changes take place on the Russian front, Germany will have to use not only the 1919 class next year, but the classes of 1920 and 1921 besides, to maintain her armies. Combing is long since finished, .and men up to the ago of pi are now called up. The strain on German man-power has never been greater, and the economic position steadily grows worse. Austria-Hungary is in a still worst posture, .and longs for peace. The concentration of our maiiv forces in the west, and the victorias of Haig and Retain, are wearing Germany down, and nbthing short of the complete collapse of Russia can bring Germany any serious relief. The new and gallant army of America will soon be in the field, and the main task before the Allied Governments is to exploit their immensely, superior resources, and to strengthen by every means possible the allied forces in the field. We have had serious disappointments this year, but at the back of everything/ there remain these facts—namely, that we hold the sea, and forbid it to Germany, that wa have' superior resources of all kinds; that we heat the Germans and the Turks whenever .we meet them, and that the spirit, both of our fighting forces and of our people at home, is everything that we could wish. We must not allow temporary disappointments to depress us, when we have so much fo be thankful for and such as-

durance of ultimate victory. It is an affair of nerves and of the tenacity of the. warring races. Never in our history' have we come off second test jn a . struggle of this kind, anfi so 'we and ■ our trusty Allies, will go on, in fine weather or foul, till our purpose is attained.
