BOWLING.

(THE TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. The Taranaki Bowling Tournament was continued on Tuesday afternoon, when the second and third rounds were decided. In one or two rinks the play was somewhat disappointing, but taken on the whole, some particularly fine howling was witnessed, many brilliant heads being played. The most 1 uteres ting match of the day was that between A. K. Smart and Mason. The New Plymouth skip assumed the lead early in the game, and at the sixteenth head the scores were 17 to 9, but in the next five heads Mason scored ten points to Smart’s two, the scores at the 21st head therefore being equal. The playoff aroused considerable interest and excitement. When the s’kips went down, Mason was lying two. His first bowl failed to improve the position, find Smart, with a beautiful shot, took out both his opponent’s scoring bowls and lay three. Mason was short with his last bowl, and the game went to Smart with a margin of three points. For the first time, Auroa, the youngest club in the province probably, has a rink skipped by O. Johnston taking part in the tournament, and although they failed on Tuesday to register a win they played splendid bowls against much more experienced -players; each game being lost by a narrow margin of points. Their play was very favourably commented upon. ' Results were as follows: SECTION A (Pitzroy Green). Second Round. London 21 v. Higgs 18. / Benefield 27 v. Des-Forges 23. Petty 23 v. Medley 17.
