Amalgamated Society of Carpenters aid Joiners of New Zealand interviewed the Minister of Labour last session concerning the decision of the Supreme Court in the Ohinemuri mining employees case. Mx - . Jennings, M.P., introduced the deputation, and lia-s received a reply: “The Secretary of Labour thinks it desirable that the Arbitration Act he amended at ah early date to enable unions to make provisions in the rules for, benefits, as a number of unions have already had provisions in force for years under the impression they were voted. The best course for members pending the amendment of tlie Act would be to form themselves into friendly societies for benefit purposes only, and apply to the Registrar of Friendly Societies for registration.
