Dr. G. N. MacDiannid, of Taihape, has been appointed a medical officer—with the rank of captain—at the Military Camp, Fcatherston. Sub-Inspector W. B. M'llveney arrived in Now Plymouth on Monday night on Supremo Court business, ana also in connection with arrangements for the safety of overseas ships. Mrs. J. Oliver, Gill Street, has received advice that her son, Private J. V. (Willie) Oliver, is being invalided home and will arrive in Auckland shortly. Private. Oliver left with the 14th Reinforcements.

Mr. Alexander Shuttlcworth will leave by the Rarawa this evening for Auckland on a visit to his nephew, Mr. W. iShuttloworth, who is in town, and will accompany him north. It is very many years since Mr. Shuttlcworth has been away from Now Plymouth.

Mrs Jas. Paul has received a letter from her .son, Sorgt.-Major Gerald Paul who is an inspector of munitions at Winnipeg, Canada, conveying the intimation that ho will bo incapacitated for some weeks as tbe result of a she'd exploding and causing severe injuries to his feet.

Mr. Burford Norman, whoso name appears in to-day’s list of balloted men. enlisted on attaining the age of 19 three weeks ago and was passed fit for active service at the recent sitting, of tho Medical Board,. Mr. Norman is a son of the late Mr. E. L. F. Norman, who was killed in. action some time ago.

, The Itev. W. A. Sinclair, president of the Methodist conference, has received cabled advice from Chaplain Luxford to tho effect that Chaplain Sullivan has been declared permanently unfit for military service. Chaplain Sullivan is well known in Now Plymouth, he having been assistant master in the Central School prior to entering tho ministry ot tho Methodist Church. The same cable also reported that Chaplain L. iB. Neale had been wounded in the thigh and' log, but that there were good hopes that the limb would be saved.
