WAITARA.

FROM OOP. v/WN CORRESPONDENT. Dec. 4. —The question was raised some time ago at the Borough Council meeting that a light should be placed at the bridge end of West Quay opposite the hotels. Tho suggestion, however, was turned down, as- it was considered that the light from the hotels was ample. Six o’clock closing has now come into force, and on Saturday night there could be no doubt that, a light' was urgently needed, and it is to be hoped that the lighting committee will take the matter into their further con- 1 sidcration. . . The application for the position of electrical engineer to the borough, succeeding Air. Burrel, resigned, were opened last night at the meeting of the lighting committee, when Mr. Johnston, of Dunedin, was selected out of 13 applications.
