TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE.

MEETING AT STRATFORD. A general meeting of the Tarapaki branch of the Now Zealand Educational Institute was held at Stratford on Saturday Tire president, Mr. A. \ . buns, presided over a fair attendance. Mr. 1, 0. Hooker addressed the meeting to enlist the sympathy of the teachers in the educational section of the Uawera Show. It is proposed to make a special feature of education at next show and competition will be open to schools throughout the Dominion. Mr. Hooker was thanked for explaining the proposals, and assured of the support, of the teachers. Notice was received' from the Director of Education that no ’teacher will ho allowed to retire an superannuation during the war without the, consent of the Minister. Whore a teacher is retained in the service after his time for retiring, he shall not be obliged to contribute to the superannuation fund, nor shall his pension bo increased on account of the extra, period during which he is retained in the service.

A vote of sympathy was passed to Messrs. C. A. Struck and F. ,1. Curaborworth, who have recently lost sons on the battlefield. The order paper for the conference to be held in Wellington on January 2 was then considered, and the opinion of the meeting on tho various remits was recorded for the guidance of the Taranaki representatives.

The- second Thursday in March was suggested as a suitable date for the Taranaki schools athletic meeting.
