ON NEW BRITISH POSITIONS.
EEPULBED WITH HEAVY LOSS, SCHEMES TO HELP RUSSIAN LOYALISTS. The Germans have collected largo forces near Cambrai and set about the task of Triping out the new British salient. 'Some impression was made by the heavy attack on the -southern part, but practically all the ground lost has hecn regained. In the north, especially in Bourlon Wood, a vital point, no progress was made and Sir Douglas Haig reports that on Sunday nine separate counterattacks were defeated. The problem of giving assistance to the saner elements in Russia is being discussed, but no feasible scheme has yet been mad® public.
