PROCESSION IN DANNEVIRKE. OF ALL ELIGIBLE MEN. PER PIIESS ASSOCIATION. DANNEVIRKE, Sept. 9. A striking demonstration was made last evening by the march of eligibles in support of registration under the Military Service Act. The Recruiting Committee proposed a parade of men in the district of military age, the local bodies, Friendly Societies, and military and civil organisations, making an impressive procession. The. town was crowded, and the greatest enthusiasm prevailed. A striking feature of the procession was a largo group of fathers of boys at the front, led by_ Mr. F. Whaler, a local bootmaker, with six sons at the front, and Mr. P. Ericksen, with seven sons in uniform; The march was witnessed by the Hon. W. H. Herries, who subsequently addressed a public meeting in the Town Hall, explaining the necessity for enrolment and obligations under the MilitaryService Act. Ho stated that the Government’s intention was to harry it out -in its entirety, and publicly thanked, on behalf of the Government, the recruiting committees of the Dominion for their , whole-hearted support of the Government, when, without new assistance, the Government’s efforts would have failed.
