Mas I3arr, M.A.. of Gisborne, has been appointed principal of the Girls’ High School. Mr. Norman R. C'leland, of Hmimoana, has boon appointed by the Government n. member of the Taranaki Land Board to succeed Mr. Coxhoad.

Owing to the number of men enlisting. slight alterations havc bcon necessary in the Customs Office. Air. Good, the examining. officer, has been moved to Wellington and the Collector of Customs. Mr. 11. IV. D. Eyre, will take over his duties in addition to his own. Word has been received in Nelson that Lieut. Athol Hudson, son of the late Dr. Hudson and Airs. Hudson, of Tapawera, has been killed in action. Lieut. Hudson was an old boy of Nelson College and Waitaki High School. He was selected in 191-5 as Rhodes Scholar from Victoria College. Tho death is announced of Air. Edwin Herbert, recently manager of the Bank of New Soutti Wales, Marten, and formerly manager of the, bank at Bulls. Air. Herbert was engaged in financial journalism in London, in his youth, but relinquished it and came to Now Zealand, where he joined the staff of the Irani, and remained in it for forty years. He was highly esteemed. At a special meeting of the Waikato Presbytery, held on Wednesday,, the Rev. D,’ N. AlTvcnzie, Moderator of tho Cambridge charge, presented a call to the Rev. T. H. Roseveare, of Ne.w Plymouth. The document being in order, Prosbyte’ry sustained it and order; cd it to be forwarded to the Taranaki Presbytery, which will meet on August 3. If accepted by Mr, Roseveare, the induction was fixed to take place at Cambridge on August 23. Waikato Times;. Several of them have not yet been examined for their sergeant’s stripes, but of those who have already undergone tho examination, Messrs. Hugh Eraser and E. Armstrong were successful. Corporal A. Chrystall has been transferred to the machine-gun section, while Corporals .1. O'. Nicholson and \V. J. Alatthews have not yot been examined.
