GERMAN BARGES ON THE NIEMEN. (Received Sept. 13, 2.30 p.m.) PETROGRAD, Sept. 12. Flotillas of German bargee are ceaselessly bringing shells from the Nicmcn to Kovrio, whence they are taken on motor-lorries to the front. GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT, (Received Sept? 13, 2.30 pan.) AMSTERDAM, Sept. 12. Fighting has developed between the Dwina and Merecz. on a greater scale than hitherto. General von limdenburg captured 1800 prisoners. Obstinate fighting between the .lesion and the Niemen lasted all day and all night. The Russians ceased thei rvesistance at daybreak. The pursuit is proceeding. We broke the enemy’s lines at several points at Zelwianka, capturing 1900. We attacked and repulsed a Russian Guard regiment north-west of Vilna. Prince Leopold, closely co-operating with General von Mackenscn’s nglit wing, captured a position east of Zelwa, Wo crossed the Zelwianka near Kozele, capturing 2750 men. General von Mackensen. continuing his progress, surprised and captured some advanced positions. We repulsed with heavy loss further attacks in. the south-eastern theatre.
